What Makes the Programme Unique
IB Core →
At the heart of the Diploma Programme is the IB Core, which distinguishes IB from other pre-university pathways. Students take three subjects at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL), allowing them to specialize while maintaining a broad academic profile.
Together, the Core ensures students develop not only academic competence but also reflection, ethics, balance, and resilience.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
A critical thinking course that challenges students to reflect on how knowledge is constructed across disciplines.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

Philosophy of the IB Programme
The IBDP is built on a clear educational philosophy: to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young peoplewho help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
At Gymnasium VICTORIA HIGH SCHOOL, this philosophy translates into:
– Student-centred learning
– International perspectives across all subjects
– Emphasis on critical thinking rather than rote memorization
– Strong links between theory and real-world application
IB Academic Skills
The IB Diploma Programme is demanding by design. Students are expected to:
– Manage a sustained academic workload over two years
– Meet external assessment standards set internationally
– Balance coursework, examinations, and long-term projects
– Demonstrate strong time management, organization, and self-discipline
Completing the IBDP signals that a student can cope with pressure, think independently, and meet high academic expectations—skills essential for university success.
Gateway to University Education
The IB Diploma is highly regarded by universities worldwide, including leading institutions in Europe, the UK, North America, and beyond. Many universities offer preferential admissions policies, credit recognition, or advanced standing for IB Diploma graduates.
Universities value IB students because they are experienced in independent research and academic writing, enter university with strong critical-thinking and analytical skills, adapt quickly to university-level workloads and expectations, demonstrate international awareness and maturity.
Importantly for families in the Czech Republic, the IB Diploma Programme is fully recognised and accepted by Czech universities, both public and private.
IB Diploma graduates may apply to Czech universities without completing the Czech Maturita, provided they meet the specific subject and level requirements set by individual faculties. The IB Diploma is recognised as an equivalent secondary-school leaving qualification, and its academic demands are well understood within the Czech higher-education system.
As a result, IB Diploma graduates from Gymnasium VICTORIA HIGH SCHOOL are well positioned to pursue both Czech and international university pathways, keeping their options open locally and globally.
